The Global Health Body Raises Warning Over Severe Scarcity of Weight-Loss Injections
Under a tenth of individuals who could benefit from weight-loss injections such as Wegovy can access them, caution the World Health Organization as it releases its initial guidance on the therapies.

GLP-1 Therapy Shortage
Even in the current best projected scenario, the manufacturing of such drugs might only reach around 100 million people – under 10% of eligible patients, per the health organization.
The guideline calls on governments and firms to expand availability, through approaches such as patent sharing.
The intellectual property rights on semaglutide – the primary ingredient of the drug Wegovy – is set to lapse in multiple countries in 2026.
